How do I configure Duo?

Environment

• Duo Multi-Factor Authentication

Resolution

Note: You will need to complete the Duo setup in one sitting. If you start it and quit, you will need to contact the Service Desk for assistance.

Note: Instructions are best followed from a computer. 

Mobile Phone

Note: Phone must be connected to wi-fi or have a cell signal to complete Duo setup

1. On your phone
   1. Install Duo Mobile app from your phone's app store
2. On your computer
   1. Open USD Duo Site
   2. Sign on with USD credentials
   3. Click Start setup
      Note: If you have already set up a device, you can set up another device by clicking Add another device
   4. Click Mobile phone
   5. Click Continue
   6. Enter your phone number
   7. Click Continue
   8. Click the phone type
   9. Click Continue
   10. Click I have Duo Mobile installed
   11. Open the Duo Mobile app
   12. Tap the + button
   13. Tap Use QR code
   14. With your phone, Scan the barcode on the computer screen
       Note: If you are doing this on your phone, click the link under the barcode
   15. Click Continue

Tablet

1. Install Duo Mobile app from your tablet's app store
2. Open USD Duo Site
3. Sign on with USD credentials
4. Click Start setup
   Note: If you have already set up a device, you can set up another device by clicking Add another device
5. Click Tablet
6. Click Continue
7. Click the tablet type
8. Click Continue
9. Click I have Duo Mobile installed
10. Open the Duo Mobile app
11. Tap the + button
12. Scan the barcode on the computer screen
13. Click Continue

Yubico Security Key

Note: Yubico keys will not work with the VPN or remote.usd.edu
Note: Yubico keys do not work with Internet Explorer browser.  They will work with Safari, Chrome, and Firefox

1. Open USD Duo Site
2. Sign on with USD credentials
3. Click Start setup
   Note: If you have already set up a device, you can set up another device by clicking Add another device
4. Click Security Key
5. Click Continue
6. Insert your key into the computer
7. Tap the metal contact on the security key
8. Click Continue
